A full ceramic coat price of $900–$1,400 covers a sedan at the 5-year tier. The 5-year ceramic coating cost on a full-size pickup is $1,150–$1,750. The 7-year ceramic coating cost adds roughly 45% on top of the mid tier. Truck / SUV coating cost tracks coatable surface area and nothing else.
Published ranges bracket the same ground. AutoZone puts pro work at $600–$3,500. UpToSpec Detail lands at $700–$1,850 for most cars (January 2026). Autotrader puts full exterior coverage with minor correction at $1,350–$2,500 (May 2026). The outliers above our band are multi-day, multi-layer jobs: $2,550 for a passenger car, $3,400 for a full-size truck.
Per panel, the price does not scale down. Prep and setup dominate the hours. A single hood or roof costs an estimated $150–$300, not one-tenth of a full car. Sources disagree on what those years mean in a driveway. Opti-Coat puts consumer-grade SiO2 at 1–3 years and professional SiO2 at 3–5 (August 2025). Ceramic Pro states 6 months to 10 years. Buy the tier, then judge the warranty by whether it is written and registered.
Paint correction moves the quote more than anything else
A coating is optically clear and permanent for its rated life. Every swirl and etch mark in the paint on install day gets sealed under it. Removing them later means polishing the coating off and starting over.
So correction is quoted apart, at an estimated $350–$1,200. A light enhancement polish on a new car sits at the bottom. A two-stage correction on a neglected black car sits at the top. One commenter's rebuttal to the overpriced-coatings argument (u/needsaguru, r/teslamotors) puts it right: you are paying for the paint correction before the ceramic coat.
Two rules follow. A quote with no correction line on a car older than a year is skipping the step or hiding it. A new car with clean paint needs only a light decon, which is why new-car quotes land lower.
Why a $350 ceramic coating cannot be real
The third-ranking Google result for this query is a Reddit thread titled "I was quoted $350 to get a new car ceramic coated." That number is the whole trap in one line.
Professional coating cost has a floor, and product plus hours sets it. A real 5-year coating uses $80–$200 in product. The install takes 6–10 hours: prewash, contact wash, iron decon, clay, panel wipe, then layered application with cure time. Skilled detailing labor bills an estimated $65–$95 an hour, so labor is $390–$950. Product plus labor is $470–$1,150 before a dollar of profit or any correction. A $350 quote sits below the cost of doing the work.
What you get at that price is sealant. A 2018 r/teslamotors PSA still describes the trade exactly: "unscrupulous detailers charging Tesla owners $1200-2500 on 'ceramic coatings' with 'nano technology'… it's not ceramic. It's not nano technology. It's SEALANT." A commenter named the tell that still works: "nobody can answer what ceramic coating actually is."
Sealant is a fine product at its own price. It runs $20–$60 a bottle and lasts four to six months. It is not worth $1,200.
Ask three questions before you sign.
- Which product, by name and line? A real installer answers in two seconds and shows you the bottle. Vagueness about the product is the answer.
- Is the warranty written and registered? Real coatings register against your VIN and carry an inspection schedule. A spoken "lasts five years" is not one.
- What happens at month six? A real coating still beads unaided then. A sealant needs a paid topper. If the pitch requires a maintenance spray to keep working, you bought sealant.

One more tell costs nothing to check. Price and warranty should move together. Every published shop ladder in our July 2026 sample climbs with the rated years — $799 to $1,799 across a 2-to-7-year menu in Phoenix, $299 to $999 across a 2-to-7-year menu elsewhere. So if a quote puts a longer warranty at a lower price than a shorter one, the two are not the same class of product. Ask what changed.
Is $1,200 for a five-year coating fair, as one buyer asked publicly? Yes, in the upper half of the estimated car band. Run the three questions anyway.
Ceramic-only price versus the PPF bundle
Most price stories online are bundles. Compare your ceramic-only quote against one and you will talk yourself into paying double.

Read the middle rows as film prices. In that $2,700 Rivian quote the coating is roughly the $1,200–$1,500 portion, and film is the rest. The two solve different problems. Film stops rock chips. The dealer row is the trap. Financing hides the price inside a monthly payment, and the install rarely includes the correction hours a standalone shop quotes.
Graphene coating price
Graphene coating price lands inside the ceramic tier bands, not above them. One mobile installer in our sample opens graphene packages at $699, which is entry-tier money. Treat any graphene surcharge over the equivalent ceramic tier as a marketing premium unless the written warranty is genuinely longer.
The blunt summary of the chemistry comes from r/AutoDetailing: "There is no 'difference' between ceramic and graphene. They add graphite powder to stuff they already call ceramic." Vendors claim an edge in heat and water spotting; Chemical Guys concedes ceramic still leads on ease of application, proven durability and cold-weather performance (June 2026). Price it by tier and warranty, not by the word on the bottle.
DIY versus a professional install
The DIY floor is real and low. Kits run $50–$300, or $100–$250 in product for a truck or SUV (AutoZone). One owner coated a new Rivian for well under $100 in products using CarPro UK 3.0, and reports it still beading 18 months on (r/Rivian, measured).
Every DIY report carries the same caveat. It only works if your paint is already near-perfect. Correcting paint yourself means buying a polisher and pads, plus the hours to learn not to burn an edge. That gap is where the pro premium goes. You pay for prep hours and a warranty, not for a miracle in a bottle.
