Four questions to ask a Austin installer

Ask these before you pay a deposit. A shop worth $945-$1,470 answers all four.

Why it matters

Red flag

Which product, and what does the warranty say?

A certified ceramic coating has a name. The warranty is written and registered.

An unnamed "ceramic". A verbal warranty.

Is this a coating or a sealant?

Sealant costs far less. It lasts months, not years.

A "nano coating" with no product name.

How many hours of paint correction are included?

A coating over unprepped paint locks your swirl marks in for good.

"Correction included", with no hours named.

What does it look like at month six?

A hydrophobic coating still beads then. A sealant has quit.

"It lasts forever". No wash schedule offered.

That last question catches an old, costly pattern. A 2018 r/teslamotors PSA drew 300+ comments. It named shops charging Tesla owners $1,200-$2,500 for "ceramic coatings" with "nano technology". The poster called it sealant — about $20 a bottle. The buzzword is the tell. Ask for the product name. If none comes back, you are buying sealant. Austin sun and I-35 bug season are the local wear case, so push the warranty question toward UV and bug-etch rather than winter salt.

Franchise or open market in Austin?

Search "coating shop near me" in Austin and franchise brands crowd the page. Two of the first ten Austin organic results we captured for "ceramic coating in Austin" (July 2026) were Ceramic Pro-branded dealer sites. Those micro-sites list their own dealers and nobody else. Good business, poor map. We are building the open-market view: the Ceramic Pro alternative. Independents and mobile ceramic coating installers will sit beside the franchise shops, price next to the name. Menu prices for the same paint protection coating vary more than the tier names suggest.
